Scheduled Recordings

The ability to schedule recordings of the raw (I+Q) data is essential for both professional and amateur SDR owners. The console has an advanced calendar window which is very similar to that found in Microsoft Outlook.

In this example there is a recurring recording for 7.000.000 MHz (40m) at 17:00 every evening and a one-off recording on 3.500.000 MHz (80m) at 19:00 on Friday June 11th.

The interface is very simple and at the same time very powerful. By double-clicking in the calendar window the Set Recording Timer window is displayed.

Playing Recordings

The raw data saved during the recording contains everything you need to replay the data as if you had the radio connected to the console.

Security

For professional users the raw data recording can be used to:

  • Analyse transmitted and received signals,
  • Prove transmissions are made as required.

Disk Requirements

The disk space required is computed using the formula below:

Bandwidth (Hz) * number of channels (2) * bytes per sample (2) * time in seconds+ 64KB (initial overhead).

Examples:

  • 400kHz bandwidth for one hour:
    400,000 * 2 * 2 * 3600 + 64KB = ~5.8GB
  • 100kHz bandwidth for one day:
    100,000 * 2 * 2 * (24 * 3600) + 64KB = ~34.6GB

So using an inexpensive terrabyte disk you can easily store up to a week of recorded data.
